What is Swarnprashan ……
Swarnprashan is an ayurvedic immunization procedure of giving gold calx processed with organic honey and  herbal brain tonics namely (Bacopa monneiri, Acorus calamus, Glycyrrhzzia glabra, Convolvulus pluricaulis)   to inhance the immunity, proper body development, digestive fire, memory, intelligence, growth and  strength in the child naturally without leaving any harmful side effects.
It was mentioned by Acharaya kashyap, first pediatrician in the history of human civilisation, about 4000 years ago in his classical text Kashyap samhita .It is also named as Swarn Bindu prashan, swarn amruta prashan.
·        Being an Ayurvedic physician, I use to prepare swarnprashan in my regular practise and has found remarkable results in children.

Why Swarn prashan is needed……
·        Swarnprashan  inhances immunity and thus it  protects the child from several kind of allergic diseases like Asthma, urticaria  and even protects from recurrent Viral and bacterial infections like pharangitis, tonsillitis, common cold etc.
·        Swarnprashan is also helpful in brain development, even to the “Special Children” with Autism, Attention Deficit, Hyper Active kids, Learning difficulties.
·        It also help in child having delayed milestones.
·         Swarnprashan also tones up the skin colour and texture too.
As per kashyap ,ancient Ayurvedic pediatrician,

 Suvarnaprashana hi etath medhagnibalavardhanamm |
Aayushyam mangalam punyam vrushyam grahapaham ||
Maasat paramamedhave vyaadhirbhirnn cha dhrushyate |
Shadbhirmaasai shrutdhar Suvarnaprashanad bhaveth

Administrating Swarnaprashan  helps in
 1.Medha Vardhanam,which means improves intelligence.
2.Agni Vardhanam which means improves digestive strength.
3.Bala vardhanam which means improves immunity and strength.
4.Ayushyam which means increases life expectancy.
5.Punyam and Manglam which means  auspicious
 6.Vrushyam i.e aphrodiasic .
Kashyap samhita also mentions that by administrating swarnprashan upto 6months,the child becomes “Shrut Dhar”,which means he can remember the things what he hears i.e extra grasping power . No doubt, Swarnprashan inhances the memory and intellectual power.
·        It has been proved that Swarna possess anti oxidant, immune modulator, anti cancerous, anti bacterial, anti rheumatoid properties. Our Ancient Acharyas has tried to explain the significance of swarn.
“ Na Sajjate Hemapange padmapatre ambuvat visham”
which means that a person who uses swarna, even poison cannot do any harm to him, similar to water drop cannot stay on the leaf of a lotus.

When Swarnprashan to be done….
Best time for Swarnprashan is morning or can be given empty stomach to  the child.

Why Swarnprashan  on Pushya Nakshatara……
Pushya is one among the 27 nakshatras. It is also known as Indrapurohita, Pusya, Pushka, Pushkarya, Pushkararaja, Pushyami, Poosam (Tamil), Pooyyam, Paushakya, Tishya, Taisa and Vutkrta. Pushya is considered as most auspicious among other stars, they call it “The Star of Nourishment” the word itself translates to “Nourisher” or “thrive”, etc. It means it provided nourishment like  a mother who take care of their kids.
Swarna Prashana is one of the  sixteen samskaras mentioned in ancient texts for paediatrics. Ideally Swarna Prashana should be started from Pushya Nakshatra day and then thereafter can be given daily early in the morning, but if not possible to give daily at least it should be given on consecutive Pushya Nakshatra days which tends to come after every 27 days.
As in kashyap samhita ,pushya nakashatra is not mentioned as such ,  but no doubt it is a very auspicious day .This day is mentioned in Ayurveda for collection of herbs too. But administrating swarnprashan only on pushya nakashtra i.e  after 27 days makes the dose diluted and results are not found significant.

What Research says about Swarnprashan…
A study by SDM college of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan Karnataka, 30 children between the age group of 3-8 participated in the pilot clinical study. They were administered 1 ml swarnaprashana once daily for thirty days before food on empty stomach.
Symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections like cough, sleep disturbance, ronchi, tonsillitis, dyspnoea and pharyngitis were scored arbitrarily and noted before and after treatment.
  •  The infections reduced by 50-66%
  • Sleep disturbance improved by 69.22%

Conclusion ……
Swarnprashan is a ray of hope for those parents who are exhausted by giving  antibiotics to their children.
In the world of medicines with harmful side effects, genetically modified food, chemically treated drinks, busy lifestyle, electronic distractions and unpredictable environment, It is a big challenge for parents to build a stronger & intelligent kids.
Swarnaprashan is the best way to boost up the immunity, digestive fire, strength, proper body development and  intellectual ability of the child.

The word “Hepatitis” means inflammation of liver. Hepatitis C is a recently discovered disease. Until 1989 medical science was unaware that it even existed. It has been called the silent killer The U.S. Centre for Disease Control estimates that over the coming decade the death toll from hepatitis C will triple, surpassing that of AIDS. There is a higher risk of liver cancer with Hepatitis C infection. It is responsible for more than one-third of all liver transplants. The liver being the most active gland of the body secretes about 600-800ml of bile daily. The metabolic functions of the liver include metabolism of fats, proteins, minerals, and carbohydrates. It also has secretory and excretory functions. A person can live without a gallbladder or spleen, can live with a single kidney or lung but they cannot live without a liver.
Ayurveda, the ancient science of life is enriched with ample amount of herbal drugs, which are tested , trusted and subjected to thorough clinical and experimental studies. The herbal treatment of HCV(hepatitis C) is a ray of hope for those patients who are unable to tolerate, afford or not eligible for Interferon and Ribavirin therapy.
Being an Ayurvedic physician , I have treated several patients suffering from Hepatitis C with herbs. I have found that after treating for minimum six to eight weeks , there’s remarkable improvement in symptoms .There is a reduction in levels of viral hepatitis load. Reduction in Level of serum glycolytic enzymes (ALT & AST)and No significant side effects (like headache, dizziness, digestive disturbances, fever, hair fall, lethargy or depression etc. as found in case of Ribavirin & Interferon Therapy) were observed during this Hepatitis C Treatment.
Symptoms of Hepatitis C
  • vomiting
  • Itchy skin
  • Jaundice(yellowish eyes)
  • Dark urine
  • Fatigue
  • nausea
  • abdominal pain
  • loss of appetite
  • muscle and joint pain
Sometimes Hepatitis C Leads to cirrhosis of liver (It is a chronic condition in which the liver slowly deteriorates and malfunctions due to chronic injury. Scar tissue replaces healthy liver tissue, partially blocking the flow of blood through the liver)and other symptoms also appears as Fluid retention (edema) and swelling in the ankles, legs, and abdomen (often an early sign abdominal pain and bloating Redness on the palms of hands.Clusters of blood vessels just below the skin that look like tiny red spiders and usually appear on your chest, shoulders, and face.Shrinking of the muscles.Bleeding from enlarged veins in your digestive tract, which is called variceal bleeding     confusion and memory and concentration problems

Causes of Hepatitis C

As per Ayurveda, liver is an important pitta sthaan. pittam is snehnam and it is produced as mala of raktam has to be eliminated properly.   the disease is caused by "vimargagamana", which is abnormal flow of constituents in other srotas(channels) resulting in abnormal accumulation of that constituent in the srota (channel) in which it is abnormally flowing. Also, it causes its deficiency in its own srotasa. In this case also, there is vimargagamana of raktamala pitta into the raktavaha srota, which should be going to the annavaha srota and excreted trough the purishavaha srota. Due to some abnormality of yakruta it flows into the rakta and then to all of the body. In the case of raktapitta, liquid part of various dhatus because of excessive heat of pitta, drains into rakta increasing its quantity. This is vimargagamana of uadaka of various dhatus in rakta, because of some functional abnormality of yakruta. Rasa and rakta, being liquid dhatus are more prone for vimargagamana. Also rasa and rakta dhatus are responsible for nourishment of all  the dhatus in our body.
Any diet or lifestyle activity that aggravates pitta can be a contributor to hepatitis. These would include:
1 .Alcohol
2 .spicy ,oily diet.
3 Red meat
4 .lack of exercise

How Hepatitis C Transmits?

The virus  pass through straws, needles or shared toothbrushes and razors. The hospital workers accidentally being stuck with a needle used on an infected patient, an actual blood transfusion, straws used to snort cocaine, tattooing and other sources of potential blood to blood contact

Treatment of Hepatitis in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda , it is to be treated as kosthgatha kamala chikitsa. The dosh dushya sammurchnaa takes place in yakrit(liver)itself ,this is between pitt and rakta.Tikt rasa ruksha virechanam has to be done. Our Ancient Acharayas has mentioned several classical ayurvedic formulations for the cure of yukrit vikaar. Ayurvedic  herbo mineral preparations restores cures by establishing the equilibrium of Tridosha(Vata, pitta, kapha)and sapt dhatus (body tissues). There are several herbs named Curcuma longa, Tinospora cordifolia ,Terminalia chebula ,Andrographis paniculata  ,Picrorhiza kurrooa ,Cyperus rotundu, Piper longum, Boerhavia diffusa, Phyllanthus niruru, asEclipta alba
In Ayurveda ,  each and every patient is an individual entity and the treatment also differs from patient to patient. Rogi Nidaan has its different parameters. It’s not as simple as in modern medicines. Prakriti parikshan, Saar, Sahanan(Compactness), Vyayam shakti(Exercise), Agni (Digestion)all these parameters are  studied by an ayurvedist. An ayurvedist makes a clear picture of the individual by understanding a patient as a whole and also  decides what kind of mode of  preparation to be used for the patient. Panch KashayKalpana(SWARAS(Juice),CHURNA(powder),KALK,HIM,PHANT,)  is based on this principle.
Conclusion
The herbal treatment of HCV(hepatitis C) is a ray of hope for those patients who are unable to tolerate, afford or not eligible for Interferon and Ribavirin therapy. It can be successfully manageable through Ayurveda.

Oligospermia, also oligozoospermia  i.e low sperm count is a problem where the quantity of sperm is less than 20million/ml.  Some times it is found the sperms are also of poor quality which means they are sluggish, dead or non motile. This leads to male infertlity.

I have successfully  treated hundreds of patients  with Ayurvedic medicines  who were suffering from this problem and were advised to take clomiphene citrate,FSH, testosterone  and other hormonal treatments by allopathic doctors .

What causes Oligospermia?
·         As per Ayurveda, oligospermia is a result of vitiated doshas , shukra and mann.  So, it is a result of shukraveh sroto dushti and manoveh sroto dushti.
·        It may be caused by intake  of drugs, tobacco, alchohal as it  impairs sperm count and reduces sperm life span.
·        Stress reduces sperm count
·        Varicocele.
·        STD(Sexually transmitted diseases)
·        Ejaculatory duct obstruction
·        Occupational hazard like working near hot furnance.
·        Wearing tight underpants.
·        Genetic disease like Klienfelter syndrome.
